  • My First Time… Entering Prints at a Fair

This year was the 103rd edition of the Sooke Fall Fair and it marked the first time I have entered prints in any competition.  While I entered many of the categories, I really didn’t know what to expect for results.  I was not disappointed.

  • Car Free Day Victoria 2016

For the second year in a row, I went to downtown Victoria, BC, for Car Free Day.  This year it took up a few more blocks of Douglas Street than last year and I enjoyed walking along, looking at all that was offered.  As I parked in a city parking garage, I was able to walk a very short distance before arriving at the first display, which was set up by local first nations.  Initially, there were various fantastic carvings but nobody was performing.  For most of the walk, I had my Canon DSLR for photos, but when I returned to the First Nations display, while they were performing, I took out my Hasselblad 500 EL/M (more on this and the medium format film photos in a later post).

  • Visiting Bucharest – An iPhone Adventure

My final post in this iPhone photography series is on my all too brief visit to Bucharest.  As I was returning to Canada on a very early flight (actually three connecting flights) from Bucharest, I travelled there the afternoon before and had a little time to see some sights.

  • Visiting Varna – An iPhone Experience

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to a couple countries in Eastern Europe for work. In order to keep from interfering with work but be able to make as many images as possible, I decided to rely on my iPhone for photography.  There will be several other posts in what I am subtitling “An iPhone Experience”.  I was hoping to find another old film camera while travelling, to supplement my iPhone photography, but that didn’t pan out this time. The first place I went was Varna, Bulgaria, which is a port city on the Black Sea.

  • Creative Vision

Fresh off a photography course designed to help develop / discover one’s creative side, I went on a hike with my camera and from a distance, and I spotted an interesting looking feature on an Arbutus tree. After a closer examination, I decided upon the look I wanted and set about the process of making the image. I knew some people would find it interesting and others would not care for it.
