Exploring The Saanich Historical Artifacts Society

There are so many different places to visit and things to see on Vancouver Island that it is easy to put off going to any of them, thinking, I can go there any time.  The Saanich Historical Artifacts Society / Heritage Acres Museum, is easily seen when driving on the main highway towards Victoria International Airport or the ferry to the mainland and has always been one of those places that I kept meaning to go to, so I finally decided to take a trip out there and see what they had to offer.  I am glad that I did.

  • Appetite for Art Show

This past week I had the opportunity to participate in my first art show, where I had some prints on display. The Appetite for Arts show in Sooke, BC is held annually, and art pieces are paired with food dishes, which have been inspired by the art.

  • More Phogtography

I enjoy getting out with my camera pretty much any chance I get, but foggy days are special, because they can transform the ‘ordinary’ scenery to something very different.  Today was one of those days, so I decided to go to the boardwalk in Sooke to check out what was in store for me this time.

  • My First Time… Entering Prints at a Fair

This year was the 103rd edition of the Sooke Fall Fair and it marked the first time I have entered prints in any competition.  While I entered many of the categories, I really didn’t know what to expect for results.  I was not disappointed.

  • Phogtography in the Forest

I planned on taking another hike down to Mystic Beach this weekend and the day started off in the beautiful sunshine. Half an hour later, I had driven through three separate areas of fog, including at my destination, which made me quite happy. I love the atmosphere fog gives to photographs!

  • A Hike to Mystic Beach

After a couple weeks of hot weather some clouds rolled in and kept the temperature at a reasonable level for a hike through the woods up and down some very steep inclines, to Mustic beach. The hike down to the beach was around 35 minutes, and for much of it the ground was covered by interwoven tree roots.

  • Deuce Days in Victoria

I happened to be in downtown Victoria this weekend and as usual, had my camera with me.  Turns out this was opportune, as this weekend is “Deuce Days” in Victoria and it is billed as the largest gathering of 32 Ford Coupes in the world.  I wasn’t when all of them got together in one area, but I did happen to see a number driving around, as well as several other old classics.

  • Ongoing Adventures of Henrietta the Hen

Ongoing Adventures of Henrietta the Hen

Quite some time ago I first met Henrietta, a chicken in search of her long lost uncle, Larry-Lays-Two-Eggs.  I told the story of our meeting over at the Oopoomoo blog, and it can be found here.  While Henrietta has grown quite comfortable on Vancouver Island, she has not given up her quest to find her long lost uncle.  Recently, she searched high and low at Gordon’s Beach and even tried to recruit a passer-by to help, but in the end she knew it was up to her alone to find him.

  • A Walk at Ogden Point

With the day being a sunny break from an otherwise rainy week, I decided to head out for a walk along the Ogden Point Breakwater and of course I had to bring my camera along.  The breakwater is a favourite of many locals and tourists alike, even on a windy February day.

  • Cloudy Day at Sheringham Point Lighthouse

It was another wet, grey weekend, but I wasn’t going to let that keep me in, so I went for a visit to Sheringham Point Lighthouse near Shirley, BC.  The lighthouse is at the end of a short trail that winds down a fairly steep hill.
